Carnotaurus is a theropod (carnivorous dinosaur) that lived in South America (and throughout Gondwana) in the Late Cretaceous between 72 and 69.9 million years ago. The Carnotaurus was a lightly built tow legged predator around 9m long and weighing 1.35 tons.
Carnotaurus was very distinctive with thick horns above the eyes, muscular neck, very small arms and long slender legs. The horns were probably used in mating rituals and would have been covered in keratin and longer than on the fossil. It is thought to have had a very good sense of smell and possible was one of the fastest big therapods.
