Cryolophosaurus is a large theropod known from a single species from the Early Jurassic period of Antarctica. Cryolophosaurus has a distinctive crest on its head that is just over the eyes and fans out across the head from side to side. It is thought this dinosaur was a top down predator and may also have scavenged from other animal's kills. Antarctica was closer to the equator when Cryolophosaurus lived and the world's climate was hotter and more humid than it is today. There is evidence of a variety of vegetation and a diverse range of species along the coast.
